Trakai Castle (also known as “Little Marienburg“) is a very
popular
tourist destination in Lithuania, the castle is an “Island
Castle” located in the east of Lithuania in Lake GalvÄ— (which has 21
small sized islands). Trakai Castle was first built in the 14th century
and had several stages of construction, the castle was left to ruins
around the 17th century and for 200 years it remained dormant. In the
19th century a series of reconstruction plans began to take place –
which slowly refurbished the structure transforming it into a 15th
century castle.
There is a beautiful wooden bridge which leads to the island.
The island’s trees and general appearance is at its best towards the end of summer.
