The Blue Lagoon is located in Grindavík, a fishing town
just a 40 minutes drive south from Reykjavík (the capital of Iceland ).
The Blue Lagoon is a geothermal spa which offers a special experience,
when the yearly average temperature is around 5 Celsius (and winter is
much colder) the geothermal heated mineral pools of The Blue Lagoon hand
out a real taste of Iceland’s extreme environment and Iceland’s
contrast of fire and ice. The Blue Lagoon are not natural hot springs as
many tend to think, The first pool formed at the site in 1976 out of
the water that was released from the near by power plant. In 1981 it was
discovered that the water, which are rich with minerals, have healing
powers for some common skin disorders. In 1992 official Spa was opened
for everyone.
