Speicherstadt is a district in Hamburg, Germany.
Speicherstadt
was built during the end of the 19th century and the
beginning of the 20th century (a time span of 44 years). Speicherstadt
was designed as a district of warehouses and till this day it is the
biggest of its kind in the entire world, it also known as “Freihafen”
which translate as “free-port” since it was also meant to be an area to
transfer goods with no custom fees (mainly spices, coffee, carpets and
coca). Speicherstadt translates from German as “city of warehouses, or “warehouse district”.
This “Venice of warehouses” is uniquely photogenic at dusk. Till this
day it is used to store and trade many goods, so apart from a
neat place to walk around, There are quite a few of museums around
the district, for example: The Spice Museum, The Afghan Museum,
Miniature wonderland (Miniature Railroads), the Messmer Momentum (Tea
Museum with large choice of fine teas and items revolving around tea
culture from around the world).
