Harmandir Sahib (Translates to English as: “Temple of God”) is the holiest Sikh Gurdwara (Sikh Temples are called Gurdwara ). Harmandir Sahib is situated in the city of Amritsar, Punjab – in the north of India, not far from the border with Pakistan.
Harmandir Sahib is also known as the Darbar Sahib or as most tourists call it “The Golden Temple”
(even though there are 2 more Temples in India which are known as “The
Golden Temple” in Varanasi and Tamil Nadu). It is recommended to visit
the temple both in daylight and at night. The construction of the
Gurdwara began in 1588 and was finished in 1601, due to afghan invasions
the temple was damaged and restored in 1760. The temple welcomes men
and women from all backgrounds and religions to come and worship.
